The No-THING Workplace

Did you know that having too little to do has a more significant negative impact on job satisfaction than having too much to do? In one study, those experiencing overload rated their job satisfaction at 57%, 8% higher than those who felt they had too little to do.

In some environments, even simple things seem to stagnate. You are unable to progress projects through indecision and risk-aversion. I call this the No-THING workplace. You can’t even get ONE THING done.
The acute frustration will eventually wear a body down. Eventually, you stop trying.
From coaching sessions with clients, conversations with colleagues, and personal experience, I understand the devastating effects on esteem and mental well-being by being excluded from productive and meaningful work.

This workplace can undermine your self-worth and infect your drive and motivation. And if you are unlucky or not careful, you can start to fit right in. You begin to demonstrate the learned helplessness that is the norm in a No-THING workplace.

And this will stop you from moving on and finding a workplace where you feel valued and able to contribute.

What’s ONE THING you would advise someone who finds themselves in this situation?
