The Shakespeare problem

You have probably heard me banging on about how some organisations are trying to do too much and overwhelming their people. And how other organisations never get anything implemented because they are paralysed - being 'just not sure' it's the right time or the right thing or ... yeah, you get it.

Both of these workplaces - the Every-THING and the No-THING workplace - end up having the same problem. I call it the Shakespeare problem because it's too much ado about nothing. There is sound and fury signifying nothing.

In the Every-THING workplace, it's a tempest of activity, but things fail to last. When one desires too much of a good thing, all is ultimately swept away by the tides.

In the No-THING workplace, people speak an infinite deal of nothing, planning and meeting and considering. But action is eloquence, as nothing will come of nothing. Things won are done; joy’s soul lies in the doing... deep.

Creating a culture that is focused on ONE THING that supports our well being takes courage, especially when we are locked into too much or too little. But it is worth stepping into that breach, for 'tis ONE THING to be tempted, another thing to fall.

P.S. With my profound apologies to Shakespeare.
