Not what you expected?
Well, I don't know about you, but I had slightly higher hopes for the start of 2022.
I keep hearing the promo for Jaws 2 echoing in my mind, "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water."
But when I a not listening to movie promos from the late 1970s, my mind has been playing that Frank Sinatra song, "High Hopes". It's from the 1959 Frank Capra movie, "A Hole in the Head", and won the Academy Award for best original song. Plus, it was used by John F. Kennedy in his presidential election campaign the following year. [Thanks, Wikipedia]
That's the song about an ant moving rubber tree plants. Although its motivation is unclear, it seems that the ant's high hopes are not diminished by the enormity of the task at hand. On the contrary, the ant preservers and is highly successful in its rubber tree plant moving endeavour.
The song suggests that "'Stead of lettin' go" ... "any time you're gettin' low" we can be inspired by recalling this feisty little insect. With high hopes, determination and perseverance, we will succeed.
Perhaps it's not a bad aim for 2022.
What's the ONE THING you have high hopes for this year?
