Ill-o-meter

Just getting over a cold-type-thing. I felt pretty ookie for a few days.

Now that description may have been all very medical-sciency-technical, for sure. But I have a down-to-earth way to know where I am in the illness and recovery cycle.

First, I can't do anything but sleep. Me under the doona. That's it. But when I start to feel a little better. I pop on the radio and listen to slightly stimulating programs and fall asleep a bit. When I'm feeling better still, I prop my self up and so some reading - check my phone, maybe a book.

Then something major happens. I make it to the couch. But that effort usually has me falling back to sleep again. Until I feel recovered enough to turn on the telly and sleep through that. I know I am getting better when I find I can watch the telly, and not long after do some reading.

It's when I want pizza - I don't know why either - I know I am well enough to resume more regular life-things.

ONE THING I know when I am unwell is I still feel the pressure of all the things that I should be doing. Stuff that is getting further and further behind. But you can't rush it, or you risk a repeat bout.

It got me thinking about our organisations. I have spoken to quite a few companies where they are still loosing a lot of days to COVID and general fatigue. So I was wondering where they might be up to?

I don't think we are up to the 'pizza' stage at a lot of workplaces just yet. But if we take care of our people and do the stuff that really matters (which might be less that our ideal level of achievement), we may be leaping off the couch and sinking our teeth into that hot, cheesy, crusty goodness soon.
