Flat Balls Don't Bounce
We play in different arenas. We have different fields and boundaries. Depending on what you are playing and your position in the team, your focus is not the same. The rules vary from sport to sport. Our equipment is not the same. But ONE THING we have in common is that over time, and under the pressure of the match, we can find ourselves a little worse for wear.
Many people have been playing long and hard over the last couple of years. The positive pressure - their drive, internal motivation, a sense of purpose - continues to leak out. They feel deflated.
And a flat ball will not bounce.
And there is no ONE simple THING that will fix it for everyone. No magical resilience program. No single intervention.
We are all different.
Some people are self-inflating - like those beds that you get out for the in-laws. Just flick a switch and - voila. But even when they are self-inflating, you still need to look out for wear and tear. You will need a patch if even the most minor leak develops. And over time, we'll need some extra air.
You are the most critical piece of equipment in your game. And as leaders, you need to look after all the balls in your court.
To get the best out of the game, be realistic about demands, show your appreciation with a thank you, be curious about how to help maintain internal drive and motivation, support any necessary repairs and get more years of great play.
