Flippant about failure
At times we can be a little flippant about how it's important to be okay with failure. We don't fail, we learn. Our organisations should get okay with failing because that's what brings innovation.
I agree.
And I also think that sometimes we might need to take a moment and experience the failure feels.
If we have worked hard on something, spent time and effort, had good reasons to believe it could really work and then it doesn't, then we get hit by another organisational imperative - to bounce back, get back in the saddle and take what you've learnt to the next thing.
Once again, I agree.
I just don't think we should mandate how that happens for everyone. Just saying 'What did you learn from that?" seems superficial. Very head - but no heart. Feel the disappointment, be a bit sad, or frustrated. You're not a robot - yet.
ONE THING though... Don't live there, but you've got to feel it to use it to fuel your next attempt.
I'd love to hear about any rituals that teams and organisations have for acknowledging their failure feels.
