Stay out of my fridge
I talk to clients, colleagues, friends ... the lady at the newsagent who all tell me they are exhausted from working too hard and too much.
The other day, I was having this conversation while chopping some veggies to go in a salad I was making for myself and a friend for dinner. I found myself, a bit flippantly, making this analogy.
Each week you go out to the supermarket and buy enough to eat. You have your breakfast stuff, things to take to work for lunch, make some dinner and have a couple of treats ... because life's too short.
But then, you notice someone helping themselves to your fridge and eating more than their share.
If it was just food, and you were lucky, you could buy more.
But what if this resource was your time? You know you only have so much and are not sure when the shops are closing for good. You might want to be a bit careful about managing it.
Is your organisation helping itself to your time? Is taking stuff you need for a happy, healthy life from your time fridge? Is it consuming gluttonously and all the best stuff? Does it need to go on a diet? Or would you like a lock for that fridge?
The wine may have helped us reflect and laugh about the food-is-time conversation. But in the end, it matters that you don't starve yourself of this limited resource and that you work towards a healthy, balanced time-diet for you and your workplace.
