Cocreating is not for everything
I love facilitating and supporting outcomes that teams and organisations create together. It is great fun and hard work. We also know that engaging the people who will use the product, process or service in the thinking and design creates more successful outcomes because there is a greater sense of ownership.
BUT... It's not for everything.
It's certainly not for me when it comes to furniture.
ONE THING I don't want to co-create is my furniture. I just want it in my house and not needing assembly of any type. Not in boxes. Not with little plastic packets that may or may not have what you need to co-create my desk, chair, or chest of draws.
No, I want the furniture. I want it carried through the door, ready to take its place in my house and be useful. All fresh and new, or preloved and characterful, and all I need to do is give it a bit of a wipeover. Done!!
Now, I am reasonably sure that there is an analogy for the workplace hidden in there. But basically, I just wanted to whine about how frustrating I find putting furniture together. So let me know if you see one that's relevant.
