Bridges and Boundaries
Have you ever felt overwhelmed and thought, "I just need to learn to say No!"? While this is a good sentiment, it's not always the solution. Sometimes, saying Yes to an opportunity is just as critical.
Personally, saying No has never been my problem. In fact, according to my mum, it was my first word and always one of my favourites! But instead of focusing on whether to say Yes or No, I think about Bridges and Boundaries.
Bridges keep me connected to the things that support me and my goals, while Boundaries help protect me from what is harmful or out of alignment with what truly matters. With strong Bridges, I get to focus on enriching connections with people, ideas, and opportunities that align with my values and goals.
On the other hand, having good Boundaries is critical to maintaining my well-being. When it's too much or the wrong thing to be focused on, having boundaries keeps me from getting overwhelmed.
I like to imagine my Bridges and Boundaries like a castle with a large moat, drawbridge, and thick walls. It allows me to reach out and have total control over what enters. But this can also feel heavy at times. So, I can also see my Bridges and Boundaries like a cell. It has protection against harmful bodies but is permeable to things that help me grow and strengthen me.
How are you applying Bridges and Boundaries to achieve success and well-being at work and in your life?
