Culture or cultures?
Who is responsible for organisational culture?
Everyone? The Executive? Or the focus of this article, middle managers?
The answer is a resounding Yes to all three!
What I like about this article is the emphasis on how there is more than one culture. It discusses Big-C, small-c and sub-cultures but focuses on the role middle managers can play when they engage in enriching their small-c cultures rather than simply endorsing the Big-C culture.
I remember hearing an interview with an academic theologian who highlighted that our use of the term Christianity encompassed the high church with its formality and rituals, the snake-charming Pentecostalism of the southern US and a million things in between.
With the emphasis on diversity and its benefits, perhaps it's time for more thinking on diversity within organisational culture is called for.
