Miserable at work

Over the years, I have done quite a lot of work in and with different government organisations on their employee survey called the People Matter Survey.

One of the questions that breaks my heart every time I read it is about whether you feel miserable at work.

It's not about checking how high or low the score is or tracking the data over time to see if a decrease has occurred. It's that we need to ask the question in the first place. That there is a demonstrable need to include it.

Look around or check the mirror, but what can you do to make work less miserable for someone today? It won't fix embedded structural or personality issues - and believe me, I am all about that. But it's something we can all do at no cost and with massive benefits.
