Call me - or not...
My mum is really old now. She (says she) doesn't like talking on the phone much. Her new iPhone still frightens her a bit. So she doesn't call me. I find it annoying.
She tells me I might not be in when she calls - a poor excuse even before mobile phones became mobile. The only things that could happen a) me not answering, b) the answering machine picking up, or c) me picking up.
But now we have a new way to communicate between the times I call during the week when I know she will most likely be awake and not doing much. I send photos of my cat and tell her what he's up to. It also tells her what I am up to. She responds to my photo messages (no, we don't do social media) with funny or concerned comments.
Looking back over our messaging history, there is quite a little story of everyday adventures told through that lovely black cat. And it's pretty funny. I might make it into an album for her (and me).
Finding ways to stay in contact doesn't always have to involve the usual suspects.
Finding solutions to overcome and embrace things that annoy you might be one accidental idea away.
