Enhanced brain interrogation techniques
Want to do something difficult and time-consuming? I can't imagine anyone jumping off their seat and enthusiastically shouting, "Yes, Me!" And if we ask your brain this, it will be trying not to catch anyone's attention.
Our brain takes shortcuts wherever it can to save its limited fuel for whatever lurks around the next corner. But our desire for convenience is not just hampering our effectiveness, it's undermining it.
We make so many assumptions every day - and many of them are helpful. But when we are busy or overwhelmed, we can overuse this energy-saving device.
These days, we rarely take the time to put our thoughts under the spotlight. But it is increasingly important to be able to identify and interrogate our assumptions. What do we know for sure? What do we think about it? What other information and opinions are out there? Who does this serve?
Flooded with information, a lot of it divisive, try to interrogate ONE THING today without wanting your findings to support a position you already hold. We need to get better at this if we are to create a thriving and inclusive workplace, society, and world.
