Do you want to build a snowman?
Have you ever seen the Epic Cake Fails on BoredPanda.com? For some reason, I can't not see the parallels with our workplace experiences.
We all know what "good" looks like. Some of us even have a clear picture of "great." But how often are we actually hitting the mark at work? How consistently are we nailing the things that truly drive our success?
So, what would it take to turn our reality into something that matches those high expectations?
Looking at this not-so-fine fellow, we'd need to:
Lay a solid foundation: Make sure the cake is well-shaped and stable.
Use the right ingredients: Skimping on the icing won't help.
Build capability: Practice the pieces to build the whole
Mind the details: Take care the eyes look friendly and not frightening
If your team’s looking more like the sad snowman on the right, it might be time to ask:
Are our systems, processes, and structures simplifying things or just making a mess?
Do we have the right people in roles that play to their strengths and passions?
Are we embracing a growth mindset, ready to face challenges and improve?
Are we laser-focused on delivering the best for our customers?
Clearly, I've been staring at these cakes for too long. It's time to step into the kitchen for a snack.
So, what would it take for your team to build a better snowman?
