Extreme Practice
ONE THING that really impressed me hearing Mark Mathews, one of the best big waves surfers in the world, share his story of resilience recently was his dedication to being prepared and doing what I would call "extreme practice".
To deal with getting dumped by massive waves, and being prepared for the fear and disorientation of remaining held under in the churning seas, Mark shared ONE of the THINGs he did to be ready for this inevitability.
He would hire a free diver as they are able to hold their breath for extended periods of time. They would get into a deep pool and he would have the free diver hold him under the water and not let him up as he struggled to surface. The video footage of this was quite remarkable as they inelegantly wrassled under the water.
Now that is commitment.
And it got me wondering what ONE THING I could do to up my practice game in something that mattered to me?
How about you?
