The beehive and the bee

I heard this quote recently in an interview with Kai Whiting, co-author of 'Being Better: Stoicism for a World Worth Living In'. He discussed how Stoic philosophy is more than just sucking it up or a 'grin and bear it' approach - but can support a more equitable world.

An unhealthy hive is a dangerous place for a bee. The threats to bee health are many - colony collapse disorder, the Varroa mite, to name just two.

Not only do those winged wonders provide 20-25,000 tonnes of delicious honey goodness annually [worth around $100 million], the hard work they do pollinating crops "contributes between $620 and $1,730 million to the value of Australian agricultural production per annum," according to the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment.

An unhealthy organisation is not good for our people. But unlike bees, we have an opportunity to do something about it. Working on ONE THING we can do deeply and together in our workplaces that 'makes the beehive healthier' can be transformative.

Do ONE THING that matters, take a bit of time to do it, find lots of ways to support success, and engage your people early and often.

How hard would it be for you to find ONE THING to make your workplace hum?
