Telly-logical
There is something valiant about we humans. We love stories about effort against all odds. Giving it a red-hot-go. And we like the story even if we don't succeed.
We love that we try.
I was reminded of this while re-watching "The Good Place" recently and the character of Michael, an evil demon trying to be good, [played by Ted Danson] seemed to sum this up so perfectly - attempting something futile, with a ton of unearned confidence, and failing spectacularly.
You may know my love of telly-wisdom by now, so you will be unsurprised that I was also reminded of this sentiment in another TV favourite. In the final episode of The Newsroom, Aaron Sorkin writes about the greater fool.
"The greater fool is someone with the perfect blend of self-delusion and ego to think that he can succeed where others have failed."
I find this telly-wisdom kinda reassuring and motivating as I push myself outside my comfort zone.
Do you have any telly-wisdom you'd like to share?
