57 Varieties

I don't know about you, but the varieties of types of leadership that are in the marketplace reminds me of the famous Heinz Soup slogan when I was younger that boasted 57 varieties. It's easy to feel confused.

While there are some important differences, there are many similarities across the leadership marketplace. There are lessons to learn from all. And it's is possible to see the new varieties as a move from top down to bottom up, or on a scale from autocratic to democratic, or shifting from task focused to people focused.

Having a team of leaders bringing a range of ideas and getting clear on what matters to them, in this group, and this context, seem infinitely more important than the label you choose.

The conversations where leaders share and challenge their thinking about leadership supports the team to develop together, be accountable around shared behavioural expectations, and focus on what will drive their ability to change and succeed.

That is ONE THING that matters more than which of the 57 varieties you choose.
