True Gratitude
I often wonder if my cat understands irony. I hope not. But my ironic comments directed his was got me thinking about gratitude for all the things that come your way.
Whenever he hops up on my desk for some attention - often during a meeting or when I am concentrating - and proceeds to walk across the keyboard adding unrecognisable words and deleting my last efforts, I greet him with the welcome (slightly ironic) "Ohhh, Spooksy, your helping. Thank you".
This goes for efforts to assist me in the kitchen when I am cooking and need to thank him for the offer to help but move him off the table. Or when I am eating something on the couch and he wants to make sure it's alright. Well, you never know.
But my gratitude also extends to thanking him for leaving me gifts in the litter tray, "Ohhh, another lovely present. Thank you, Mr Spooks, So thoughtful"
And while I am semi-joking and amusing myself about the cat-human relationship, I also think it's a good way to think about being grateful. I love that he is looking for my company even though it's not always timed well, and knowing that his gut health is fine (which litter tray presents let me know).
Things can be a bit shitty, but sometimes it's an indication of something that needs to change. And having that awareness, attempting something new or accepting how it is can make some of the shit worthwhile.
What shitty thing can you be grateful for today?
