Is there a word for that?

I was talking rubbish with a friend about weird diets we had done or heard about the other day and joked that an air diet would be good. Perhaps I could write a book on it and market that for fun and profit. We were very jovial until we looked on the interweb and found that it already existed.

This isn't the first time this has happened. We've come up with a completely absurd idea, perhaps after wines, and then discovered this it already exists in this crazy turvy topsy world.

And I think there should be a word for that. In a dictionary, it might say,

[Whatever the word is]: imagining a crazy, impractical idea that won't work only to discover it already exists, and you can order one online.

Is there a word like that? Maybe we could make one up?

What's your suggestion?
