Make time to save time
Last week I wrote about the number of cups of tea and coffee that go cold on my desk when I get super focused. It's disappointing when you raise that cup to your mouth expecting comforting warmth and are greeted with ... brrr... cold.
It got me reflecting on what happens on responsible cuppa days. Not getting into my workflow happens despite knowing a lot about focusing attention and motivation and generally getting stuff done.
Becoming aware of my lack of focus through some of my telltale cues (see diagram) presents me with a choice. Do I knuckle down or accept that my brain is probably working on something else?
And the answer is Yes.
Get on with absolutes, then stop, give myself time to reflect, and let my brain have some space.
Now I don't just sit and stare - always - but might get on with tedious or meditative work like folding the washing or get out and go for a walk or a swim.
But if I continue to lock myself into ineffective work, it drains me and can have my imposter champing at the bit to have their say.
Make time to save time.
Be intentional with your lack of attention.
