Career Insurance
I only recently heard the term 'career insurance'. It's not about policies or premiums but rather about the value and impact of information. Some employees find it an essential shield in today's professional landscape.
Why do some individuals feel compelled to withhold information - especially of a damaging nature, and keep it under lock and key? The reasons are varied - fear of being replaced, losing favour with your boss, being admonished, desire for power, or simply a lack of understanding of the benefits of sharing.
However, this withholding mentality wreaks havoc on teams and organisations, stifling innovation, hampering collaboration, and fostering an environment of distrust. When information is siloed, opportunities for learning, growth, and progress are squandered.
The damage is ultimately to the collective success of projects and companies, but in the moment someone chooses not to speak up, it is seen as an unacceptable risk to an individual or team's immediate or future career.
So, what advice would you give someone about career insurance?
