Bringing the fun in

Work hard. Be successful. Learn more. Make money. Be productive. I'll have fun when... Have we put fun on the outskirts of our lives?

Maybe we have BIG FUN under control. The annual holiday. Celebrations like anniversaries and birthdays. Events to attend. These special – and often expensive - occasions that we plan for.

What about SMALL FUN? Little things we enjoy, give us please, and we do every day.

I can get caught up in busy and productive, and all the things I 'should' be doing.

A couple of things get in our way, like our beliefs.

- SMALL FUN is spontaneous, and unlike BIG FUN, it's not real if you plan it.

- Decide what SMALL FUN is. Fun changes as you mature. Don't get stuck with earlier, now irrelevant ideas.

Or our focus.

- Failing to notice SMALL FUN when it occurs - or reflect on their 'fun-ness' afterwards.

Lack of SMALL FUN damages wellbeing. So what's to be done?

Redefine fun for yourself. Ignore what everyone else is doing and make your list.

Take a clue from BIG FUN and schedule it – to make all the things you 'should' be doing as a responsible grown-up better.

Recognise and reflect on your SMALL FUN every day. Link it to an existing habit, like brushing your teeth.

Have fun with that.

What ONE fun THING you do?
