The say-do ratio

Are you someone who over-promises and under-delivers? Or not so much? And what about your organisation?

We've all dealt with people who are going to do all that and a hat. Or teams who have mighty plans, a million brilliant ideas. But it is simply hot air. And that is one sure way to undermine the goodwill of employees.

Now we don't want to promise nothing. We need people to feel excited, motivated and hopeful about our future and the plans we make. Knowing what we are aiming to achieve, and why we are doing it means we need to say what we intend.

But I think of say and do a bit like taps. No matter how high you have the say tap, make sure the do tap is flowing just a little faster and stronger.

It's fine to dream big, but implement bigger.
